Attention is a method AI models use to weigh which parts of the input matter most when producing an answer.

Attention is how an AI model decides which words or pieces of information to focus on at each step. Instead of treating every word equally, it gives more weight to the parts that seem most relevant to the task and to each other. This matters because it helps tools follow your instructions, track context in longer text, and connect related details. For example, if you ask a tool to summarize an email and list action items, attention helps it compare your request with the message and emphasize deadlines, requests, and names rather than unrelated background.
