Databricks pitches Unity Gateway to govern AI use in the public sector

Databricks published a post describing Unity Gateway, a control layer inside its platform for managing how agencies use AI. According to the post, administrators decide which models, coding agents, MCPs and AI tools each user or team can reach, set spending limits and hard caps by user, team or use case, and apply content guardrails and access controls across every AI interaction. It also describes Smart Routing, which sends tasks to cheaper models, and says Databricks manages data residency for its hosted foundation models by geography, with admins able to require requests be processed inside their workspace's geography. The post gives no pricing or launch date.
