What it does
Recto is an AI tool for designing user interfaces, building websites and writing code with AI. It is free to use.
Recto is a desktop application for Mac, Windows and Linux that gives coding agents a visual workspace for design work. Rather than moving between a terminal, a browser preview and screenshots, you run an agent such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or OpenCode inside Recto and watch the design take shape on a canvas. Recto detects the agents already installed on the machine, and several of them can work on the same project. Nothing needs MCP setup, an API key, or network calls between the canvas and the agent. You pick an agent and describe what you want; the agent writes HTML and CSS, and the result appears on the canvas. From there you can select an element and change it directly, or pin a comment containing text, an image or a drawing and send it to the agent together with the element's context. Each project keeps its colours, type, spacing and components in one design system, stored as CSS variables, so changing a token carries across pages. Recto also covers motion through a visual timeline, SVG graphics, 3D elements, and bringing in a design from a website by pasting its address. Recto is free to download. Designs remain in HTML and CSS, so they can be exported and used outside the app. Figma import is listed as coming soon.
