Anthropic Adds Privacy Mod to Claude Code After Email Leak Report
Anthropic has added a built-in safeguard to Claude Code after a bug report said the tool exposed users' email addresses to websites. The report, filed November 5 in the claude-code repository, said Claude Code placed the user's email address in the User-Agent header when it made web requests while doing searches. An Anthropic contributor said a mod called cc-plugin-privacy blocks this behavior in v2.1.317 and later, is enabled by default, and can be turned off through the /plugins command; its source is now published alongside other built-in mods.
Why it matters
People who let Claude Code browse the web for them can have identifying details passed to third-party sites; the new check is on by default only in v2.1.317 and later, so earlier installs remain exposed unless updated.
